A deco-style grand hotel
Beyond black-granite frontage and gilded fan details, Guest Nivo preserves the customs of grand hotels: a doorman who knows your name, a supper club seating guests at eight, ballroom orchestra, and a gaming floor glowing like a pocket watch's interior.
The overture
Guest Nivo dates from an era when hotels were meant to provide a stage. The architects conceived its lobby as a symmetrical walnut-and-brass hall, placed gilded sunburst rays over the revolving doors, and lined each corridor with chevron-woven carpet. During restoration, every feature of that design remained. Terrazzo flooring received hand polishing, every original light fitting was rewired individually, and the elevator cages continue to close with their familiar gentle chime.
Everything invisible has been renewed. Rooms remain quiet, mattresses are deep, hot water arrives within seconds, and wireless coverage extends throughout the building, even to the ballroom balcony where guests enjoy afternoon reading.
Guests arrive for many reasons. Some choose a long weekend of music, supper and late breakfasts. Others visit for the Gold Room, our classic-table-games salon under a coffered ceiling. Some simply seek sleep in a place that feels special. Everyone receives the same welcome: a warm towel, a cold glass of something, and a concierge with their table already reserved.
Guest Nivo is independently operated by a small team who have worked together for years. There is no call center or scripted service here. Instead, we offer a front desk, a long memory and a firm belief in doing things well.
Upstairs
At Guest Nivo, each room shares a symmetrical layout: a bed placed centrally against a lacquered headboard, paired lamps, a window-side writing desk and a black-and-white tiled bathroom. Every category adds its own measure of space and ceremony.

The Gold Room
Behind twin bronze doors two floors beneath the lobby, the Gold Room recalls a classic casino salon. Black-waistcoated dealers, green baize and gentle lamplight establish the mood beneath a gold-leaf coffered ceiling.
As part of the hotel, the Gold Room is looked after by the same team that welcomes you at reception. Hosts remain on the floor during all opening hours, the lounge provides a concise small-plates menu, and table newcomers can join a complimentary lesson before their first hand.
Only adult guests and visitors of legal gaming age may enter the gaming floor. Photo ID is verified at the bronze doors, where our trained team can support anyone wishing to place limits on time or spending.
A Guest Nivo evening
By their second night, most guests find a familiar rhythm. This is the usual shape of an evening, though Guest Nivo never follows a rigid schedule.
6:00 pm
As lobby lamps come on, the bar opens its shutters. At a black-glass counter, bartenders stir classic cocktails while the pianist starts on a slow number.
7:30 pm
Beneath a dome of silvered stars, our supper club welcomes diners. The kitchen prepares a concise seasonal menu, while the sommelier maintains a cellar holding more than four hundred wines.
9:30 pm
Each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, a twelve-piece orchestra performs swing and ballroom standards in the Grand Ballroom. Its sprung oak floor leaves little reason to remain seated.
11:00 pm
Once the final dance ends, many guests head downstairs for blackjack, a roulette turn, or simply a lounge seat to observe the room at its most lively.
1:00 am
For those not yet ready to head upstairs, the Mirror Bar stays open late in one corner, offering hot chocolate, aged spirits and a shortbread plate.
9:00 am
The Palm Court is for mornings: breakfast runs until eleven in this glass-roofed garden room, with made-to-order eggs, warm pastries and excellent coffee.
Dining and drinks
Across four rooms, one kitchen brigade shares the conviction that dinner deserves to be the evening's centerpiece, not a meal hurried through beforehand.
Beyond the rooms
Beneath eleven crystal chandeliers, the ballroom welcomes weekend dancing, private festivities and an occasional masked ball. During peaceful afternoon hours, guests may stroll in freely.
The Starlight Orchestra performs on three evenings each week. On Wednesday and Sunday nights, from eight, a jazz trio plays the intimate Mirror Bar stage.
Discover four treatment rooms, a eucalyptus steam room, and a pool illuminated from below. Treatments feature botanical oils, warm stones, and extended, leisurely massage.
From our guest book
We visited for our anniversary, and every evening we were given the same corner table at Celeste without ever requesting it. On Saturday the orchestra performed our song, and I still cannot imagine how they knew.
Everything in the room was spotless, and it was quiet enough that I slept until nine. The Palm Court breakfast alone justifies the journey, while the Gold Room dealers showed wonderful patience as I learned baccarat.
It is like entering an old film, only with superb shower pressure and new beds. Before we checked out, we had already reserved our spring return.
Before you arrive
Check-in starts at 3 pm, while departure is at noon. Arriving early? The concierge can hold your luggage while you relax in the Palm Court or spa lounge. For Salon Suite and Penthouse Gallery guests, late check-out up to 3 pm is available on most days.
Throughout the hotel, dress in whatever feels comfortable. Smart evening attire is requested at Celeste and the Grand Ballroom, while smart casual clothing is requested in the Gold Room after 7 pm. Many guests dress up to suit the period setting, but no one is refused for not having cufflinks.
Adult guests and visitors who are of legal gaming age and carry valid photo ID may enter the gaming floor. Children and teenagers receive a warm welcome throughout the rest of the hotel, including the Palm Court, the spa pool's morning family swim and the ballroom's Sunday tea dance.
At the main doors, valet parking is offered around the clock for $38 per night, and electric-car charging points are available in the garage. Train arrivals may request that the front desk send a hotel car to the station.
Yes. For dinner, the Grand Ballroom accommodates as many as 320 guests, while three more intimate salons are suited to groups of twelve to sixty. Contact our events team at the reservations address for floor plans, sample menus and open dates.
